BiographyZachary Armstrong (b. 1984) lives and works in Dayton, Ohio. He works in painting, but also in painted sculpture and other media. The point of departure of Armstrong’s art is his own world: his childhood, his family, the American province, folk art, natural history books… Through his works, Armstrong explores a childhood creative Elysium, using children’s drawings, both of his own making and of his friends, as the base for his large-scale encaustic works. Often a motif is repeated and extended throughout several paintings and series. Armstrong's paintings combine geometrical structures and expressive figuration, all perfectly rendered in the texture-full encaustic technique, which give the works a haptic quality.
