    Book presentation: Le Monde d'Aïcha

    6th September 2024
    5:30 PM - 8:00 PM
    GNYP Gallery Berlin

GNYP Gallery looks forward to welcoming you at the presentation of the book “Le Monde d’Aïcha”, a monograph on the French, Pakistan-born artist Aïcha Khorchid at our Berlin location. The book includes text about the artist and her work written by Prof. Dr. Klaus Albrecht Schröder, Andreas Baur and Martin Plante.

Prof. Dr Schröder, Director of the Albertina Museum Vienna will introduce the book and talk with Khorchid about her work. The Albertina Museum recently acquired five works by Khorchid that were exhibited in “The Beauty of Diversity” - her first exhibition ever - alongside artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cecily Brown and Cindy Sherman. This strength of Khorchid’s work appealed to Prof. Dr. Schröder, which prompted him to write the introduction to the presented book.

Khorchid’s motifs are fuelled by her eventful life. Born in 1981 in Pakistan to Palestinian-Lebanese parents, she fled with her family via Lebanon to France as a small child. Separated from her family, she grew up in a foster family in Normandy, one of the many that followed. Her story is characterised by experiences of pain, grief and setbacks, but also by an incredible strength and willpower. She worked as a dancer, model, choreographer and became self-employed before she began to deal with her past artistically. Sometimes art goes its own way. This is also the case with Korchid, who only found her way to painting in 2020 - at the age of 39 - and unwaveringly developed her own highly individual style.

Khorchid’s first solo exhibition took place at our Antwerp Gallery earlier this year.

Join us on this evening for drinks and let us introduce you to Khorchid’s special oeuvre. The monograph will be available during the evening for a special price.
